Young Australian Charged for Supposedly Attaching Googly Eyes on ‘Cast in Blue’ Sculpture

A young person from Australia has faced legal proceedings after allegedly vandalizing a large blue sculpture of a legendary being by affixing googly eyes to it.

The 19-year-old, 19 years old, participated via phone at Mount Gambier Magistrates Court in the state of South Australia on Tuesday, facing with one count of property damage.

Officials commented at the moment of the September incident, the municipal authorities said that CCTV footage showed a individual placing artificial eyes on the sculpture, which locals have dubbed the “Blue Blob”.

Ms Vanderhorst did not enter a plea and told the court she was ill, as reported by media sources, with the magistrate recommending her to secure a lawyer before her next court date in the final month of the year.

The following day the alleged incident, the city leader said that restoration to the much-loved community sculpture would be expensive as the stickers could not be detached without damaging the art piece.

She added the council would pursue the “significant” repair costs from those responsible for the damage.

When the sculpture was initially suggested, it drew varied responses from the area residents due to its cost and appearance.

Priced at A$136,000 (eighty-nine thousand US dollars; £68,000), the artwork depicts a mythical megafauna, with the creators inspired by an ancient marsupial ant-eater discovered in local caves that was “huge, slow-moving, and intriguing”.
