Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
