A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”

Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”

Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup

The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.

The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The song blends a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.

“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a figure explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”

The context in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.

“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”

The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
