The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
