The defendant confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who laced candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.

The defendant was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She told the court Ruben had played this game with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
