Performer Refutes Anti-Vaxxer Position After Lending His Voice To Contentious Coronavirus Documentary
Liam Neeson has lent his voice to a new documentary that challenges the efficacy of vaccines and commends one-time cabinet secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Film's Provocative Basis
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the project is based on a well-known publication co-authored by a disgraced researcher, who became famous during the global outbreak for allegations that the illness was linked to a problematic version of the flu vaccine.
The publication's writing partner, the executive producer, has penned books with conspiracy-prone media personality a known commentator. The producer wrote online celebrating Neeson's participation in the project.
A Strong Rebuttal
Representatives for Neeson have released a comment strongly denying claims that he holds anti-vaccine sentiments.
"We all understand that misconduct may occur within the pharmaceutical industry, but that should never be confused with being against vaccines," the comment explains. "Neeson never has been, and is not, anti-vax. His extensive work with the global charity reinforces his consistent support for public-health initiatives."
The response added that the star did not shape the film's narrative and that inquiries about its claims should be directed to the creators.
Key Claims Featured in the Film
As presented, the script read by Neeson includes several controversial claims:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have insisted on "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It posits that "medical science has become deeply influenced by politics."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is featured claiming, "The major issue with vaccines is that they just aren't safely tested."
- The film further attacks stay-at-home orders, claiming they caused mental anguish that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Concerning the immunizations, it cites a report that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Past Controversy and Ongoing Disputes
The film also references a 2004 BBC documentary about clinical trials on children, which was later the subject of a correction by the network for violations of guidelines.
In recent weeks, RFK Jr instructed the Centers for Disease Control to revise its official position that there is no link between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This supposed link is repeated in the film, despite a recent study from the WHO reiterating no such link has been found.
A Past Record of Support
Differing from the film's message, Neeson has in the past voiced firm endorsement for vaccines in his position as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Two years ago, he referred to vaccines as "a remarkable triumph," noting that "The debate about vaccines in recent years has lost sight of how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in our history."
"Plague of Corruption" finishes with Neeson's narration stating, "This isn't the finish of our story. It is the dawn of a different phase."
