New Year's Revelers Told to Dress Warmly with Snowfall Forecast Throughout the UK
Forecasters have indicated an icy beginning to the new year, with snowfall likely across much of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to wrap up as bitterly cold temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Continue Amid Warnings
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay festivities are planned to take place, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This proceeds amid yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so additional clothing will be necessary," noted the Met Office.
Celebrations Under Clear but Frosty Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks celebrations, with a lack of precipitation and clear skies. Temperatures are expected to be cold, so warm wraps a necessity, according to forecasters.
To the north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not expected to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Broad Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Expected to Fall Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are forecast to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are expected to batter the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow is expected to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Health Advisories Issued
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency stated this indicated the weather could to cause major effects across medical and care provision. This encompasses a expected uptick in the number of deaths among the elderly or unwell or those 65 and older.
