Jurgen Klopp admits a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead another team on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect at the club. Jota was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
