After a festive period filled with rich foods and relaxation, numerous individuals enter the new year aiming to get their fitness back on track.

However, is it possible that AI be transforming the fitness industry by offering an alternative to personal trainers?

Tailored Plans and Flexible Schedules

Leah Walsh employed an AI tool for last-minute training for the Cardiff Half Marathon.

The 21-year-old hailing from Aberdare said she liked the liberty to pose queries at all hours – a feature she believed was not possible with a personal trainer.

Leah used an AI-powered running app that gave her customized schedules with audio coaching and pace setting for her first half marathon in recent years.

She said she asked it to create a regimen merging cardio and the weight training, and it produced an multi-week plan tailored to her event day and objectives.

The user then tweaked the plan to suit her lifestyle, which she said was convenient.

The following year, she chose a different tool because it was cheaper and she could consult it whenever she wanted. She finished a full minute quicker than her goal time.

She noted she wanted to avoid the pressure from a live instructor.

"With AI you have to find your own drive, which I quite like," she remarked.

Significant Fitness Gains

In a similar case, Another individual, 23, from a Welsh city, has been employing artificial intelligence for his fitness and diet plans, and reported he has achieved peak strength, boosting his bench press from 70kg to a much heavier load.

He turned to a AI assistant for help after being forced to walk a race.

"I just knew I need to sort myself out," he said.

This no-cost application constructed a fitness and meal program personalized to his goals, and created structured routines.

"I train for about two hours a day and I've seen a real difference," he said.

The Expense Comparison: Technology vs. Conventional Coaching

A recent study in the previous year analyzed costs for numerous of the largest gym brands and found the average membership cost was approximately forty pounds a month, based on standard full-access plans.

Prices ranged from £23 at the most affordable provider to £132 at the most expensive.

Based on further data, fitness coaches determine their own fees, usually a range of thirty to sixty-five pounds per 45-60 minute session in most areas and about a similar range in London.

Clients typically hire a coach one or two times a week and work with them for a short period, but these agreements are completely flexible.

The Essential Personal Touch

Personal trainer one experienced professional, from Cardiff, said AI can be beneficial to accelerate results, but is convinced it will never replace the personal interaction and responsibility that in-person coaching provides.

The 37-year-old, who has 12 years experience as a coach, focuses on older adults and recovery from injuries. He mentioned some of his trainees also use AI.

"I think it's very valuable, more knowledge is positive," he stated.
"I believe the more that people are online the more they'll desire human connection because they want the empathy from the understanding that is absent from a computer," he continued.

Dafydd explained Artificial intelligence can inform clients and make coaching more effective.

But, he said real commitment comes when people show up in person for training.

"As useful as it is at 2am, a digital tool cannot ensure you show up at early morning before work," Dafydd added.

For many, he suggested, the gym is a space to disconnect from devices and stop being glued to screens.
